The translation of his name “Held” into Korean is “Young-Ung”. He ran his schools under this name for a long time, and it wasn't until 2021 that he shortened the name of his system to “YU-Taekwondo”.

The entrepreneur

He smashes a lamp hanging 3 metres high with his foot, he breaks through stone slabs, he writes books, has earned a PhD in Sports Science, is a successful entrepreneur who has already opened 30 branches, and is always on the move, in line with his philosophy of ‘moving mind and body’.

“Through the harmony of body and mind, people are capable of achieving their highest potential. Taekwondo is not just a martial art; it is a way of life leading to a healthier, more dynamic body, a contented soul and a very strong mind,” says Dr Held, a happily married father of four.

The sportsman and teacher

He attained his first master’s degree in the Korean martial art of Taekwondo in 1998, has completed all relevant sports, osteopathic, psychological and educational qualifications, and exudes a cheerful serenity and inner calm in every situation. Dr Held is deeply convinced that proper exercise strengthens the body holistically and enhances willpower, intelligence and adaptability.

Since 2021, Dr YU – the pseudonym of Dr Held – has been focusing on training his advanced students, coaches and school principals, as well as on organising seminars and workshops. He also shares his experience and knowledge through books, speeches and as a mentor.
