Schoolchildren’s Self-Defence Day at YU Taekwondo Mombasa

Schoolchildren’s Self-Defence Day takes place on Friday, November 13, 2026, at VOK Social Hall in Mombasa. School classes are warmly invited to take part in this free workshop and learn practical, age-appropriate self-defence skills in a safe and encouraging environment.

The workshop will be led by Kwan Jang Nim Dr. Andreas Held. Participants will be introduced to simple techniques, confident body language, awareness, and safe reactions for uncomfortable everyday situations.

No previous martial arts experience is required, and no advance registration is necessary. School classes can simply come to VOK Social Hall and join the workshop.

What Schoolchildren’s Self-Defence Day Offers

Practical Self-Defence Skills Students learn simple and age-appropriate movements that can help them respond more confidently in difficult or uncomfortable situations.
Awareness and Prevention The workshop encourages participants to notice their surroundings, recognise warning signs, and understand how to seek help early.
Confident Body Language Clear posture, a strong voice, and calm behaviour can help children communicate boundaries and appear more self-assured.
Safe and Respectful Training All exercises are taught in a controlled environment with a clear focus on safety, respect, responsibility, and age-appropriate learning.

Why Self-Defence Is Important for Schoolchildren

Self-defence education is not only about physical techniques. It also helps children develop confidence, awareness, concentration, and the ability to make calm decisions under pressure.

During the workshop, students learn that avoiding danger, creating distance, using a clear voice, and asking trusted adults for help are often the most important first steps.

Schoolchildren’s Self-Defence Day gives young participants the opportunity to practise these skills together with classmates in a positive and supportive setting.

Led by Kwan Jang Nim Dr. Andreas Held

Kwan Jang Nim Dr. Andreas Held will personally lead the workshop and guide the students through the exercises. His teaching combines traditional Taekwondo values with practical instruction and clear explanations.

The workshop is designed to be understandable and accessible for schoolchildren. Students are encouraged to participate actively, ask questions, and practise each movement carefully.

The aim is not to encourage confrontation. Instead, participants learn to act responsibly, protect themselves, recognise risks, and seek help when necessary.

Who Can Participate?

The free workshop is intended for school classes and schoolchildren who would like to learn more about personal safety and practical self-defence.

No previous Taekwondo or martial arts experience is required. The exercises are introduced step by step and can be followed by complete beginners.

Advance registration is not required. School classes may come directly to VOK Social Hall in Mombasa and take part in Schoolchildren’s Self-Defence Day.

What Should Participants Bring?

Comfortable sportswear is recommended so that students can move freely and participate safely in the practical exercises.

Participants should also bring a water bottle and follow any organisational instructions provided by their school or supervising teachers.

Curiosity, attention, and a willingness to learn are the most important things to bring to the workshop.

Building Confidence Through Movement and Training

Taekwondo training supports physical coordination, balance, concentration, and body awareness. At the same time, it can help children become more confident in their own abilities.

Working together as a class also encourages cooperation, respectful behaviour, and responsibility for one another.

Schoolchildren’s Self-Defence Day offers a meaningful introduction to these values while giving students practical knowledge they can use in everyday life.
